How do you open your garage during a power outage?
The automatic garage opener is a lifesaver when it is raining or snowing, and you need to park your car and escape the weather elements fast. The problem is when there is a power outage you cannot accomplish this. It is critical that you learn how your garage operates manually so that you are not stuck. You can also contact a garage door repair company for instructions.
Manual trigger
Most of the garage doors have a manual release that is located at the back of the door. You will often find a long red rope that hangs from the track of your door. When you pull this, you will release the trolley from the track and open your door manually. Note that you should pull the red rope only when the garage door is down otherwise it releases the door from the track, which may cause it to crash down if open. After pulling the red rope, you can then open and close your garage door manually.
Manual lock
When there is a power outage, and you do not have back up, your sensors and security cameras may also be down. This creates a perfect opportunity for thieves to gain entry into your garage. You can avoid this by using the manual lock that shuts the garage from the inside.
Power backup
It is wise to have a small generator that automatically takes over during power outages. Since you use the garage door often, you should find one that is cost effective.
Restoring garage system after power outage
When power comes back on, your garage opener will reboot, and the track will reattach your door to the trolley by forcing the spring back to its original place. Most of the automatic features will start operating again. You will need to pull down the red rope again and pull it towards opening the garage door. Then pull down the door until you hear a snapping sound; this should lock it back to place.
If after doing the above your garage does not revert to automatic mode then you will need to call in a mechanic for repairs. If you are apprehensive about the whole process, then it would be better just to park your car outside and be safe. There are many tension springs in the garage systems that constitute a significant cause of injuries.
Safety precautions when using the release cord
1. Only use it when your garage door is in a down position. This is because when the handle is released, it comes crashing down. Secure the area before doing this and ensure there is nothing beneath the garage door.

2. Use the 2X4’s to prop open the door into a safe closing.

3. If the cord is hard to disengage, do not attempt to hang from it as this can damage it. If it breaks, you can fall down and suffer injuries.
Conclusion
The release cord is a handy tool to use when you are experiencing a power outage. It enables you to open your garage and prevents you from parking outside. Always remember to reattach door when the power comes back.

Buying guide for the right opener for your Garage door

The garage opener consists of an electric motor housed in the power unit. This unit is attached to the track; when you want to open and close the door, the trolley goes back and forth along the track. This trolley is moved along the track by a belt, direct or chain drive; they also handle the motor. The garage openers hang from the ceiling and are located at the rear of the garage door. It can be challenging selecting the right garage opener. This article is meant to help you make the right purchase.

Noise

If your bedroom is located above the garage, then the noise can cause you some sleepless nights. The problem could be the type of drive that you have. The chain drive produces the most sound. You can change it to a belt or direct drive.

Remote control

Most modern garage openers are remotely controlled. If you have an old model get your garage repair serviceman to install for one. But, if you leave in a crowded neighborhood, you will find some interference with your remote control, especially if you use a single frequency remote control. The solution is to get yourself a dual frequency model.

Security

Modern remotes come loaded with the latest security features. One of these technologies is the rolling-code security technology. To keep burglars out the remote control selects a new non-repeating access code from billions of possibilities. This means that it would take hackers and burglars a considerable amount of time just to get the access codes. You can also have a touchpad or fingerprint access remote control. However, security works if your garage is properly maintained. For instance, if the lock on your garage door does not work, then contact a garage door repair company to repair it!

Power Backup

If you do not have a battery backup, then you will have problems accessing your garage when there is a power outage. Newer garage openers have this feature. In case you do not have one you can always use the manual release to open your garage.

Overhead lighting

Lighting is a standard feature in many modern openers. These lights let you operate the opener independently of the door closing and opening. Motion sensors in some models enable the garage opener to activate lights when someone is approaching the garage automatically.

Wi-Fi Connections

Modern garage openers let you take control of all garage functions from the comfort of your phone. You can check who opened and closed the garage. You can also set passwords and grant access to friends and relatives.

Horsepower

The garage opener should be able to handle the weight of the garage door. While the doors are made from various materials, some heavier the weight is often counterbalanced. Most of the openers have horsepower of ½. You can get other models with ¾ to 1 ½ horsepower; this can handle the garage door with less strain. The units stated are for garage doors that weigh about 7 feet.

Conclusion

The garage opener is an essential component of any garage system. You should consult widely as newer models are now available in the market. These have more features and are more efficient.

There are a lot of fun things to cook, and if you are planning to cook something different, then you have to try making candy gems. It is perfect for any time of the year and any occasion. From Valentine’s Day to Birthdays and Christmas season, candy gems are very attractive, and your guest will love them.

Candy gems are quite simple to make and the following some of the ways in how you can make hard candy jewels.

How to make hard candy jewels

Things needed to make hard candy:

  • A cup of sugar.
  • Half a cup of light Corn Syrup and 1/4th cup of water.
  • A teaspoon of the desired extract.
  • Food colouring.

Special Equipment:

  • One parchment paper.
  • Moulds of the lollipop and hard candy.
  • Cooking Spray- preferably non-stick.
  • Candy Thermometer.
  • Disposable pan sheets.
  • Colourful and attractive threads for stringing.

Method of cooking:

Step 1: Preparing the moulds of the lollipop and hard candy.

You need to first lay down the parchment paper on the surface in which you are going to work as these papers will help you in efficiently cleaning the entire surface. Next, you need to add pins in the moulds and attach them to the pan sheets. Once that is done, sprinkle the cooking spray so that it does not stick to the surface. The cooking spray is a little messy so try to have a damp cloth to wipe the extra spray.

Step 2: Syrup Boiling.

You need to take a saucepan and then add water, corn syrup and water. Now, place the contents on the stove with medium heat and place the candy thermometer in the pan. Make sure that you do not stir the contents of the pan. Once the pan is heated to 295 degrees, you need to remove the pan from the stove.

Step 3: Food colouring and adding syrup.

Once the syrup is ready, you need to add the desired food colouring and the other flavours of the sugar. There are plenty of food colourings on the market, and you can make the hard candy in multiple colours to make it attractive.

Step 4: Pouring the syrup into the mould.

Use a metal spoon or some kind of piping method to fill the moulds with the syrup that has been prepared. Try to fill the moulds soon after the syrup reaches 295 degrees as the syrup tend to harden up very fast and do not try to reheat the mixture.

Step 5: Removing the candy form the moulds.

Once the syrup hardens up, allow the candy to cool completely then you can remove them from the moulds. You need to do this step with care as there are chances for the candies to break if they are not cooled fully.

Step 6: Adding the thread to make the Jewels.

The final step is to add the thread in the candies to make it into a Jewel.

The following are some of the materials used for Jewel candy making:

Isomalt:

When isomalt is boiled, it does not require any anti-crystallising ingredients. Boiled Sugar:

Boiled Sugar is a mixture of sugar and water. All you have to do is mix sugar and water in a pan and heat it to a particular temperature till you get a syrupy solution. An anti-crystallising agent like glucose is also sometimes added to make the mixture a bit thicker.

If you are using fondant and candy clay, then you can use plastic frames.
